Janice Mauro and Joanne Pagano Weber have imagined the archeology of the future, collaborating for over a decade on art in a variety of media. The artwork on this website envisions what humans will have wrought, for good or ill.
Our story begins with a disinterred robot from the future, “The Man from Branchville.” Dr. Ixton Verton reconstructs "The Man" and tells his story: the robot was part of a race called The Corporate Elites, who dominated and manipulated humanoids from the late 2000s onward. The doctor’s findings, though, were met with considerable doubt.
The next saga, “The Tidal Decade,” introduces Mssss. Bulbos Bulbos, a fashionista and art collector from the year 8000 with a passion for archaeology. The artifacts from her digs prove that Dr. Ixton Verton’s discoveries concerning The Corporate Elites were indeed true.
The latest chapter, “Beware of the Year 7000,” takes place in a world torn between two political factions, The Corporate Erects, a newly empowered group of corrupt humanoids, and The Corporate Elites, the longstanding robotic establishment. The story itself focuses on two "resourceful" artists who attempt to express themselves in an ecologically ravaged and politically oppressive world.
The three installments of the future mythology are organized thematically, rather than chronologically, creating a mosaic of interwoven stories. Our idea is that the saga will be ongoing: it will never be quite finished, but with each addition, a more concrete image of the future will materialize.
